coastal california to the pacific northwest with mountain sundays. sunday, beautiful day in the northeast, still on the chilly side. more rain, windy conditions on the carolina coastline, north and south carolina. we expect more heavy rain in the pacific northwest, more mountain snows there. nice and sunny mak >>> well, we're starting to get our first heavy wave of moisture. right now it's pushing onshore. we've got steady rainfall from san jose up the peninsula and into san francisco, even the north bay starting to the rather active. our showers are creeping up from the south pushing to the north. embedded within the showers we have a few isolated thunderstorms so keep that in mind. we'll have the heaviest rainfall overnight but look what happens on saturday, getting a nice, dry break. temperatures are going to be cool. 65 inland, 64 bayside and 61 at the coast. parts of being an american, you get to watch sunday night "football night in america." that's right. it's a bitter rivalry. the ravens fly into heinz stadium. will they catch up to the steelers? they relish the fight. clear and c

northwest all the way down into central california. we're talking about rain, wind and mountain snow. you can see the colder air diving in across the rockies here. 41 degrees in minneapolis. that's about it. but warmer air starting to build through the nation's heartland, down across the southern plains. we'll be in the 50s here around new york city. and then by saturday, saturday is still quiet but an area of low pressure will be tracking up the coast off the southeast coast. that will bring large swells, continued swells across the ouncer banks of north carolina where we're already getting some coastal erosion. also impacting rip currents so be aware of that if you're heading out into the water. hopefully not a big time of year for that. rainshowers across northern florida and into central florida. even around orlando. it's still busy in the west. we've got another cold front pushing in for saturday bringing more wet weather with it. 61 in san francisco, 52 in minneapolis. that's your saturday outlook. on sunday, pretty quiet across the area with the ex sense of the outer banks where we

okay. we are starting off the day with a little fog, back across california. but the trouble spots the will be around the great lakes. we do have some lake effect snow continuing. it is pushing east into michigan and also following along the shores of lake erie and lake ontario, through syracuse, into cleveland, ohio, erie, pennsylvania, even stretching down into pittsburgh. so those will be an area that we'll be keeping an eye on because of the snow cover that's out there. we also back into idaho falls have a wintry mix and some scattered snow showers across montana into wyoming and also rapid city dealing with some frozen precipitation that is sleet and freezing rain. elsewhere the rest of the country, especially the southern half of the country and the east coast does look fine for all the travelers out there. erica, carl? >> we will have the rest of your forecast in just a moment. >>> first up, though, msnbc's thomas roberts for the morning's other top stories. thomas, good morning. >>> good morning to you. good morning, everybody. a deadly tragedy is under investigation in ban
